The requirement of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a land reform in Ukraine and lifting the moratorium on land sales remains in force, Heinz Strubenhoff, the head of the Program of Investments in Resource Efficiency in Ukraine project at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), has stated - Interfax.
According to him, this was earlier reported by World Bank Country Director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Satu Kahkonen and IMF Mission Chief in Ukraine Ron van Rooden at a meeting of the working group on the land reform with government experts. "The IMF representative said that the government and the private sector need obviously some more time to clarify common objectives and to bridge internal differences, but the land reform comes back as a prior action for an IMF tranche in the fall this year to lift the moratorium on land sales in January 2018," Strubenhoff wrote on his Facebook page. As reported, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman on July 7 noted the expediency of a new program of cooperation with the IMF after the completion of the current one to achieve the most effective interaction with the fund. In addition, the premier said he intended to discuss the exclusion of the provision on the land reform from the current cooperation program with the IMF.
