Obolonsky district court of Kiev has decided to launch a special court proceeding against former President Viktor Yanukovych.
The judge motivated his decision by the fact that Yanukovych deliberately avoided the investigation, and has been declared an interstate search.
In turn, lawyers were outraged that the court did not consider their arguments. The defender of the ex-president Vitaliy Serdyuk has objected to the actions of the court.After this, the public prosecution began to read the indictment against Yanukovych.
As you know, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has declared suspicion to Viktor Yanukovych in the state treason and clerical support of the Russian Federation in the aggression against Ukraine during a video filing on November 28, 2016.
On December 14, the Pechersk District Court of Kiev complied with the request of the investigator to provide temporary access to things and documents held by the Presidential Administration of Russia and the Federation Council to review the original letters of Viktor Yanukovych to Vladimir Putin of March 1, 2014 requesting the use of the Armed Forces RF in Ukraine and further appeals.
On January 17, 2017, Lutsenko informed that the Main Military Prosecutor's Office received from the United Nations an official photocopy of Yanukovych's application dated March 1, 2014 requesting the introduction of Russian troops to Ukraine.
On January 20, the Pechersk District Court allowed an in-depth investigation of Yanukovych in the case of state-run Chief Military Prosecutor's Office.
