Nasirov may be summoned to British court if he violated law

Nasirov may be summoned to British court if he violated law
16 of June 2017 г.
British law enforcement officials are looking into whether suspended head of Ukraine's Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov committed violations and will summon him to court in the United Kingdom if they find any - Interfax.

"We are deeply concerned about the recent decision in Kyiv's Solomiansky Court where evidence provided by the UK in relation to the case against Roman Nasirov was ruled inadmissible and disregarded. The UK authorities will now review the facts and consider if criminal offences have been committed by a British citizen who may be tried in the UK," the British embassy in Kyiv said on its Facebook page on Friday.

"This case underscores the urgent need for progress towards a reformed, independent and transparent judicial system and the swift introduction of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Court with strictly vetted judges capable of properly trying high profile corruption cases," the report on Facebook reads.

"The UK is a strong supporter of reform in Ukraine, which is why we are hosting the Ukraine Reform Conference in London on July 6. The reform of the Ukrainian judicial system is a crucial part of the Ukrainian government's program. The Ukraine Reform Conference will offer a further opportunity for the government of Ukraine to demonstrate commitment to real progress in reforming the judicial system and further tackling corruption," it states.

British Ambassador to Ukraine Judith Gough has confirmed to the Ukrainian authorities information about the British passport of suspended Ukrainian Fiscal Service Head Roman Nasirov.

As reported, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine suspects Nasirov of committing crimes pursuant to Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misuse of public office leading to serious consequences).

Kyiv's Solomiansky District Court on March 7 remanded Nasirov in custody for 60 days and set bail at UAH 100 million. Ukraine's Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), meanwhile, requested the court set bail at UAH 2 billion.

On March 16, SAPO said Nasirov and his wife had posted UAH 100 million bail.

On May 30, NABU turned down Nasirov's request to leave Ukraine for medical treatment.

Kyiv's District Solomiansky District Court on June 2 turned down a request by Nasirov to change the terms of his pretrial detention.

NABU detectives and SAPO agents filed a motion to recover UAH 100 million bail from Nasirov because he did not turn in his British passport. The court rejected the motion and its decision cannot be appealed.
