As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by the State Emergency Service's press office.
"On March 2, at 12:46 p.m., in Hlukhiv village of Sokal district of the Lviv region, rock collapsed in Stepova Mine #10 of Lvivvuhillia SE at 550 meters due to a blast," the message reads.
172 miners were down in the mine at the moment, 34 of them at the explosion area.
"Eight of them were killed, six miners with injuries were brought to the surface," the State Emergency Service noted.
20 more miners were being picked up at the time of this publication.
The reason behind the blast is being specified. Five units of military mountain rescuers of the Energy and Coal Ministry have been involved in the rescue operation, with the total of 38 staff and nine equipment units, the SES said.
Head of the Independent Miners Association of Ukraine Mykhailo Volynets said 11 miners were killed in the methane explosion at Stepova Mine.
