President Poroshenko plans to hold a referendum on NATO membership
2 of February 2017 г.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko states he indents to hold a referendum on whether Ukraine should join the NATO alliance.
President Poroshenko stated this in an Interview with German daily newspaper Berliner Morgenpost - Ukrinform.
“Four years ago, only 16% of Ukrainians favored Ukraine's entry into NATO. Now it's 54 %. As president, I am guided by the views of my people, and I will hold a referendum on the issue of NATO membership. And I’ll do all I can to achieve membership in the transatlantic alliance, if the Ukrainian people vote in favor,” President Poroshenko said.
As a reminder, NATO postponed a meeting with Kyiv regarding the alliance’s missile-defense system, because of possible negative reaction from the Russian Federation.
