The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the death of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov and qualified the incident as a terror attack - Interfax.
"The Russian Federation Ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Gennadiyevich Karlov, sustained a fatal injury in an attack in Ankara today. We qualify the incident as a terrorist attack," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters on Monday. "We are keeping in contact with the Turkish officials, from whom we have received assurances that a thorough, comprehensive investigation will be conducted and the killer will be punished," Zakharova also said. Karlov was born on February 4, 1954. In 1976 he received a degree in international economic relations from the Moscow Institute of Foreign Relations of the USSR Foreign Ministry. In 1992 he graduated from the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry. In diplomatic service since 1976.
