SBU averts terrorist campaign in Lysychansk, plotted on City Day

SBU averts terrorist campaign in Lysychansk, plotted on City Day
7 of Septeber 2016 г.
Law enforcers detained terrorists who were performing a task of the Russian secret service. They have been served notice of suspicion and are giving testimony.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) averted a terrorist campaign in Lysychansk (the Luhansk region) plotted by a group of pro-Russian separatists by order of a Russian secret service agent, Censor.NET reports citing the SBU press office.

"Two residents of Pryvillia town planned to commit terrorist attacks against several sites and facilities in Lysychansk. In particular, they planned to blow the commemorative plaque dedicated to the Ukrainian military killed during the liberation of the city in 2014, as well as the premises of the local military enlistment office. Besides, they were plotting attacks against local pro-Ukrainian activists," the statement reads.

The criminal wrongdoing was coordinated from Russia by former militant, a Russian secret services agent who, according to the SBU, had already masterminded several terrorist attacks in the territory of the Luhansk region. The terrorists were carefully preparing the crime and picking targets. They defined sites for planting bombs, obtained explosives and firearms, reconnoitered operation hours and protection of the targeted facilities.

"The attacks were planned to coincide with the City Day celebration in Lysychansk. The explosions were intended to cause considerable public outcry. The security service operatives detained terrorists at planting a bomb the commemorative plaque to the Ukrainian soldiers Sept. 3," the agency reported.

The commemorative plaque is situated near the checkpoint on the highway with heavy traffic. The SBU investigators initiated criminal proceedings under part 2 of the article 15 and part 2 of the article 258 (act of terrorism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The detainees were served notice of suspicion. The investigation is underway.Source:http://en.censor.net.ua/n404857
