Pyatt: new prosecutor general should be really committed to reforms

The continuation of international assistance of foreign countries to Ukraine mainly depends on the level of people’s confidence in the state, and one of the key issues in this context is the appointment of a new prosecutor general of Ukraine.
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt said this during debates dedicated to the U.S.-Ukraine foreign policy, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Speaking about the dismissal of Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, Pyatt noted that the important issue now is to choose his successor that will be able to build confidence of the people of Ukraine in the Prosecutor General’s Office.
He also added that this could become the basis on which the confidence in government and the state will be built. And thus, foreign countries will be able to continue rendering assistance to Ukraine, Pyatt noted.
According to the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, the first step and the main task will be to choose the leader that “will be really committed to reforms”. “Mr. Shokin is not such a leader, and it’s good he should leave,” Pyatt said.
