No confidence vote in Cabinet fails, Yatsenyuk remains MP

No confidence vote in Cabinet fails, Yatsenyuk remains MP
16 of February 2016 г.
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has failed to score the needed number of votes for passing a vote of no confidence in the Cabinet of Ministers and refused to dismiss Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Only 194 MPs voted for the no-confidence with at least 226 votes needed to disband the government - UNIAN.

In keeping with the law on the government, if a vote of no confidence in the government is passed, the government should resign. If the number of votes is not enough, this issue cannot be raised until the end of the parliament's current session.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday called on Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk to resign.

Shokin was reported to have submitted his letter of resignation.

Poroshenko also stressed the need for a full rebooting of the government.

"Now it is obvious there is demand for a complete reboot of the government. Yet the prime minister can still choose which way it is better to give space for meeting this demand," the president noted.

"A chance for partial reshuffle of the Cabinet of Ministers has been wasted. It was talked about too much and we missed the right moment in the end. The complete reshaping of the Cabinet must be performed on the basis of the current [parliamentary] coalition consisting of the Solidarity Party, the People's Front, the Samopomich and Batkivschyna Parties," he said.
