The European Parliament strongly condemns the unprecedented human rights violations in Crimea, occupied by Russia.
This is stated in the European Parliament’s resolution on the human rights situation in Crimea, in particular of the Crimean Tatars, which was adopted in Strasbourg on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports. "The European Parliament strongly condemns the unprecedented levels of human rights abuses perpetrated against Crimean residents, most notably Crimean Tatars, who do not follow the imposed rule of the so-called local authorities," reads the resolution. The MEPs condemn the severe restrictions on freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly on the peninsula. "EP calls for respect for the Mejlis as the legitimate representation of the Crimean Tatar community, and for avoidance of any harassment and systematic persecution of its members," the document says. The European Parliament once again highlights its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders as well as its free and sovereign choice of the European path. другие новости
