A man stabbed three Israeli soldiers outside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem about noon. The incident occurred half an hour before the meeting of Poroshenko with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem.
The Israeli outlet Haaretz has also reported that at least three people were wounded in a stabbing attack near Jaffa Gate at Jerusalem's Old City on Wednesday. One of the victims was in critical condition and was being treated on the scene. The two other victims, who suffered serious wounds, were evacuated for further medical treatment.
The attack was carried out by two assailants, who were shot by Border Police officers. One of the attackers was killed on the spot and the second assailant died later of his wounds.
The attackers were identified as Issa Asaf and Anan Abu Habseh, both 21, from the Qalandiyah refugee camp. They left their cellphones at home before departing for Jerusalem. They were previously arrested for participating in demonstrations and disturbing the peace, according to people acquainted with them.
