As reported by Censor.NET citing Human Rights Watch, organisation's report notes that cluster munitions were used on at least 20 occasions since Syria and Russia began their joint offensive on Sept. 30. As a result, these attacks have killed at least 35 civilians, including five women and 17 children.
Two attacks hit camps for the displaced, one - two operational schools in Douma, a suburb of Damascus, which killed at least eight children.
Human Rights Watch found that cluster munitions used in Syria had been manufactured in the USSR and Russia. Through a review of photographs and videos posted online, as well as interviews with local residents, Human Rights Watch identified seven types of air-dropped and ground-launched cluster munitions recently used in the northern Syrian provinces of Aleppo, Hama, and Idlib.
The report also notes that the use of certain types of cluster munitions in Syria was recorded only after the Russian operation was launched. Human Rights Watch says that either the ammunition was used by the Russian military or the Russian authorities have recently supplied it to the Syrian government.
