Bill No. 2541A "On Amendments to the Criminal and Civil Procedure Codes of Ukraine concerning the improvement of the institute of special confiscation in order to eliminate corruption risks in its application" was supported by 272 out of 374 MPs registered in the session hall.
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for legislative support of law enforcement Andriy Kozhemiakin said that the provision on applying special confiscation to all crimes proposed by the Cabinet of Ministers did not meet the EU requirements.
According to him, the EU Directive provides that the special confiscation apply only to certain offenses - corruption offenses, offenses related to money laundering, terrorism, crimes related to drug trafficking and some others.
He said that the government proposed to apply special confiscation to third parties.
Kozhemiakin said that 96 amendments were submitted by the MPs before the bill's second reading. The committee took into account 20 proposals.
The MP also said that the meeting of the Committee was held on behalf of Chairman of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman on November 9. According to the results of this meeting, an additional comparative table of the bill has been prepared, and there are two amendments in it, one of which is technical - to change the name of the project.
He said that the Verkhovna Rada together with the legal department would finalize the amendments in the adopted bill.
