Electricity supplies to Crimea interrupted - Ukrenergo

Electricity supplies to Crimea interrupted - Ukrenergo
21 of October 2015 г.
Temporary switch-off of a damaged Melitopol-Dzhankoy power line led to a reduction of electricity supply to Crimea by 550 MV, which can cause power outages in the territory of the annexed peninsula tonight, according to Zinoviy Butsyo, press secretary of Ukrenergo, Krym.Realii reported - UNIAN.

"Kakhovka-Dzhankoy and Kakhovka-Titan power lines are now operating, while Melitopol-Dzhankoy power line is switched off for a certain period for repair and due to law enforcers’ work. They've been removing certain items and asked to turn it off," he said.

Butsyo noted that the decline in the volume of electricity supply to Crimea may result in power outages in the peninsula.

"This can happen if the Crimeans fail to compensate [for the decreased supply] with their own capacities; as of now, there is just a slight decrease. There might be a problem overnight. There’s no catastrophe at the moment, they have more than 500 MV, and some minimum demands will be met, but during peak hours, there may be a deficit,” Butsyo said.

Earlier, the Russian Energy Ministry said that damaged electricity pylons in Kherson region had not affected energy supply to the annexed Crimea, but Krymenergo later reported that the Melitopol-Dzhankoy power line had been switched off.

As UNIAN reported earlier, according to the division of the State Emergency Service in Kherson region unknown perpetrators had blown up two electricity pylons near Chongar, at the administrative border with annexed Crimea, overnight. Both pylons of the Melitopol-Dzhankoy power lines were damaged, but did not collapse. Crimean activists intend to block the repair works.
