Earlier, Obama compared Putin's actions in Syria with the invasion in Ukraine, which was followed by international sanctions against key sectors of the Russian economy. The U.S. president also said that the actions of President Vladimir Putin in Syria showed the weakness of Russia's position in the Middle East and the weakening of his position at home.
