Kerry thinks Ukrainian crisis can soon be resolved

Kerry thinks Ukrainian crisis can soon be resolved
30 of Septeber 2015 г.
An armed conflict in eastern Ukraine can be resolved in the coming months, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in an interview aired by MSNBC.

"I think that there is a path that we discussed … that we will try to resolve some of the outstanding issues in order to fully implement 'Minsk,' there is a very important meeting on October 2 with President Hollande, Chancellor Merkel and President Putin in Paris," Kerry said.

"Hopefully we can work over these next three months. There is a potential to make progress in Ukraine if people want to cooperate," he added.

Kerry noted that during the meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin in New York, Ukraine was not the only topic of the discussion, and both leaders also paid much attention to the situation in Syria.

The State Secretary also said he was planning to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday. This will be a third time the two Foreign Ministers meet for talks.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Obama and Putin held a meeting behind closed doors in New York on September 28 during the UN General Assembly.

On September 10, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor, French President and President of Russia during which it was agreed to hold a meeting in the Normandy format (Germany, France, Ukraine, Russia) on October 2.
