Russia destroys over 700 tonnes of banned food since early August

The Russian government has destroyed more than 700 tonnes of banned import products since early August, according to the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.
"As of September 27, a total of 676 tonnes of contraband food of plant origin has been confiscated and destroyed," the report says.
It is also reported that a total of 318 tonnes of food products of animal origin has been confiscated, 62 tonnes of them was destroyed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, popular attitudes of the authorities' decision on the destruction of banned import products are distributed almost equally: 42% believe that the embargoed food should be destroyed, while 38% hold the opposite opinion.
