Ukraine to toughen anti-Russian sanctions by banning direct flights

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk announces that in keeping with National Security and Defense Council decisions, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has decided to toughen anti-Russian sanctions by banning flights carried out by Russian airlines, namely Aeroflot and Transaero, according to the government's press service.
Ukraine is also banning transit flights of Russian airlines through Ukrainian airspace "if they carry defense goods, duel-purpose equipment, or Russian military personnel," the press service said quoting Yatsenyuk who announced this decision at a recent Cabinet meeting.
The premier also ordered the message to be relayed to the Russian side.
"Russian planes with Russian flags have no business at Ukrainian airports," the press service quoted Yatsenyuk's words.
Prior to that, the Cabinet wrote on its official Twitter page that it would take additional sanctions against Russian companies.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure citing the State Aviation Service, the ban against Russian carriers will enter into force on October 25, 2015.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on September 16, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko enacted a decision taken by the National Security and Defense Council on September 2 to introduce sanctions against about 400 individuals and more than 90 entities from the Russian Federation and other countries, who are involved in the annexation of Crimea and aggression in Donbas.
