U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt was also present at the ceremony. The ambassador has promised support and aid to Ukraine from the U.S.
Melnyk is a police lieutenant who had worked in police before as commander of the 4th company of the 3rd battalion of Kyiv patrol police.
Melnyk was responsible for Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, which has quite complicated crime situation. Melnyk personally visited all crime events in his area of responsibility.
"As a commander, I cannot afford putting my people into emergencies," the new head of the Kharkiv patrol police stressed.
