Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatolii Matios stated at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday, Interfax reports.
"The investigation into [actions of] these two servicemen Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Aleksandrov, who were suspected of having committed criminal offenses under five articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, has been completed with the participation of their defense yesterday, Aug. 25.," Matios said.
It should be reminded that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (GRU) operatives Alexander Aleksandrov and Yevgeny Yerofeyev were detained near the town of Shchastia by the Ukrainian soldiers May 16. They were served notice of suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities of the "LPR" May 20.
The Shevchenko district court in Kyiv remanded Sergeant Alexander Aleksandrov and Captain Yevgeny Yerofeyev in custody for two months May 22.
In a conversation with the OSCE SMM observers, the Russian commandoes admitted that they had previously visited eastern Ukraine to fulfill combat missions on behalf of the Russian Federation military authorities.
Earlier, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the agency expected the release of the Russian citizens arrested in Ukraine, noting that the detained Yerofeyev and Aleksandrov were allegedly "former" Russian career soldiers.
