National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said in his comment,Censor.NET reports citing the NSDC press service.
According to him, one military was killed and 16 others were injured as a result of the shelling.
"We have warned that the provocation committed against the OSCE mission was part of the preparation for the offensive on our positions," the NSDC secretary said.
Oleksandr Turchynov said that having burnt cars of the permanent representatives of the OSCE SMM which impeded their movement, "the enemy battalion task force reinforced by armored vehicles attacked strongpoint of the 72nd Brigade in the direction of Novolaspa-Starohnativka after a powerful artillery preparation fire."
"The enemy advance and attempts to break through our defenses were stopped and the ATO troops launched counterattack," he said, adding that the Russian-backed terrorist groups retreated having suffered substantial losses while the Ukrainian soldiers advanced up to three kilometers and established themselves on the command points.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the situation in the ATO area remains tense, "the enemy conducts artillery strikes and concentrates forces to break through our defenses in certain areas."
"Given the situation, the President of Ukraine has held urgent meeting with the Chief of Staff, Defense Minister, and NSDC secretary," he said.
"The plan to respond provocations and attempts to break through the defenses committed by the Russian-terrorist groups has been worked out," the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council said. According to Turchynov, the international observers had been informed that the Russian-terrorist forces have intensified commission of war crimes.
