Russia extends counter sanctions against EU

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday said that he has signed a decree to extend for another year Moscow’s ban on imports of certain products from countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia.

The decree comes into effect from Wednesday, June 24, UNIAN reports citing the BBC’s Russian Service.
Putin asked the government to prepare a corresponding decision on its part as soon as possible. According to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the document has already been prepared.
As reported earlier, the list of banned products will change slightly, but the details of these changes have yet to be announced. At the same time, Putin expressed confidence that the adopted countermeasures would be “a good reference point for domestic farmers.”
Russia's decision to extend its tit-for-tat sanctions became known immediately after the European Union announced its decision to extend for another six months its own restrictive measures, which were imposed on Russia because of Moscow’s annexation of Crimea and its stoking of the conflict in the Donbas.
The previous Russian counter sanctions were approved last August and were to have run out this August. The sanctions cover a range of products from the United States, the EU, Canada, Australia and Norway.
