'DPR" mercenary, who was detained by the 8th separate Aratta company of Pravyi Sector volunteer corps on June 13 near Shyrokyne, turned out to be Russian citizen Roman Tolstokorov.
He also said that his task was to guard objects in the Donbas. He has been fighting for less than a month. Tolstokorov stated that he was not paid a kopek, although was promised to receive 15,000 Russian rubles (about $272 - ed.). He also informed that mercenaries resided in abandoned apartments and conducted acts of looting. The captive said that he left the terrorists' location and went over to Ukrainian side after mercenaries beat him up for his swastika tattoo on his back.
Tolstokorov said he got this tattoo in a prison, where he served a sentence for theft and drugs. He also confessed he had been treated correctly and politely while in Ukrainian captivity. He explained he had no motive to fight, and that it happened occasionally and was a mistake. The Russian fighter said he fired at Ukrainian soldiers. He also stressed that there were Ossetians fighting for the self-proclaimed 'Donetsk People's Republic.' Tolstokorov claims that many mercenaries would like to return to the Ukrainian side but are afraid of punishment.
