Pope Francis urges Putin to make sincere efforts for peace in Ukraine

Pope Francis has urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to make "great and sincere efforts to achieve peace" between the parties to the conflict in Ukraine, Radio Liberty has reported on Wednesday.
"During the meeting, which lasted about 50 minutes, Pope Francis and Putin agreed that in order to stabilize the situation in Donbas, it is necessary to restore the atmosphere of dialogue between the parties to the conflict," the statement reads.
In addition, Francis and Putin noted the importance of compliance with the peace agreements signed in Minsk by the representatives of Ukraine and by the representatives of two self-proclaimed "republics" in the east of the country, who constantly violate them.
