Ukraine and the European Union have signed a memorandum on the new package of macro-financial assistance program worth EUR 1.8 billion.
The memorandum of understanding was signed at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The document was signed by Finance Minister of Ukraine Natalie Jaresko and European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis.
The ceremony was also attended by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeria Hontareva.
"I would like to sincerely thank the European Union for this emergency assistance on behalf of the Ukrainian Government and people," Jaresko said.
In turn, Vice President of the European Commission noted that such financial assistance was the largest ever provided by the EU to the third countries.
