Ukrainian government allowed not to pay external debts

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has supported the government bills to grant the Cabinet the right to suspend payments on external debt, Ukrinform reports.
256 MPs voted for the bill No. 2898 "On peculiarities of the transactions with the state, state-guaranteed debt and local debt," while 246 MPs voted for the government bill No. 2899 "On Amendments to the Budget Code of Ukraine in connection with the adoption of the law "On peculiarities of the transactions with the state, state-guaranteed debt and local debt."
Under the legislations, Ukraine may suspend payments on certain state-guaranteed external debt obligations.
The explanatory note to the bill states that the Government and city councils will have the right to suspend debt payments.
