The Security Service of Ukraine Counterintelligence Department operations group (the team was fulfilling battle mission in the ATO area, approved by the SBU authorities) and the detachment of the 92nd Mechanized Brigade (military unit No.6250 permanently deployed in Chuhuiv city in Kharkiv region, which is guarding the Thermal Power Plant) got into action with the Russian Federation Armed Forces Special Operations Forces reconnaissance detachment consisting of up to 30 people May 16, 2015 at about 2.30 p.m. near the Luhansk TPP (situated in the city of Shchastia in the Luhansk region).
Two Russian servicemen were wounded and taken prisoners during the engagement. One Ukrainian soldier (the Armed Forces of Ukraine) was killed and one more was injured (the SBU Counterintelligence Department). The Counterintelligence Department officers interrogated the captive persons and established that they are career servicemen of the 3rd Special Operations Forces Separate Guards Brigade of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation (the military unit No. 21208 deployed in Togliatti city, Brigade commander Colonel S. Shchepin).
Kalashnikov assault rifle (produced in the Russian Federation) was seized from the detainees. The captives are currently at the city hospital in Kramatorsk (the Donetsk region). According to the testimonies of Captain Y. Yerofeyev and Sergeant A. Aleksandrov, they arrived to the militants-controlled territory in March 2015 as part of their brigade's detachment to carry out combat subversive and reconnaissance missions against the ATO forces.
They were instructed to scout the territory of the Luhansk TPP May 16, explore its defenses for future seizure by the LPR militants' detachments. In addition, the facts confirming detainees' Russian citizenship were established as well as their places of residence, study, and work (in the past) and the information on nearest relatives, who live in the Russian Federation.
