UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has praised Ukraine's contribution to the victory in the World War II and assured that the UN and he personally would support our country in its desire to live in peace. He said this during the installation opening "Ukraine ... War ..." together with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the press service of the Head of State reported. "Victims were not vain, the UN Charter stipulates that the main goal is to save future generations from war," he stressed. Ban Ki-moon expressed solidarity of the United Nations with Ukraine. "I am here to demonstrate once again my support for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in order to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine." According to him, the UN and Ukraine are close partners. "Ukraine is a state-founder of the UN. During 24 years of its independence, it has been providing peacekeeping assistance to a lot of states in the framework of numerous operations all over the world. If Ukraine asks the UN to help ensure its peace and security today, I will do everything possible to help it. The UN and the international community will stand next to the Ukrainian nation," the UN Secretary-General stated.
