Ukraine increases number of border guards

The MPs have passed a law, which was submitted by the President of Ukraine, providing for the increase in total number of the State Border Guard Service staff up to 53 thousand people.
According to an Ukrinform correspondent, 253 MPs have supported this decision.
Under the law, the total number of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine amounts to 53 thousand people, including 45 thousand soldiers (compared to previous 50 thousand people, including 42 thousand soldiers).
According to the explanatory memorandum to the document, the changes will help to improve the reliability of protection of the demarcation line, with further access and deployment of new agencies of the State Border Service on the temporarily uncontrolled state border of Ukraine. With the introduction of such measures, the State Border Service of Ukraine will be able to create and apply new mobile reserves, which will have a positive impact on improving the protection of the interests of national security of Ukraine.
