NewsRSSNord Stream 2 runs counter to interests of EU and Ukraine – Blinken
23 of March 2021 г.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday the Nord Stream 2 pipeline being built from Russia to Germany ran counter to the European Union’s own interests and could undermine Ukraine.
He said this during his first visit to NATO Headquarters on March 23, Reuters reports. "President (Joe) Biden has been very clear, he believes the pipeline is a bad idea, bad for Europe, bad for the United States, ultimately it is in contradiction to the EU’s own security goals... It has the potential to undermine the interests of Ukraine, Poland and a number of close partners and allies," Blinken said. The U.S. Secretary of State also said that he was due to meet his German counterpart, Heiko Maas, to discuss this issue. A two-day meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs kicks off in Brussels on Tuesday to address important challenges facing the Alliance. Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned companies taking or planning to take part in Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project about the threat of sanctions in accordance with U.S. law. As Ukrinform reported, Nord Stream 2, a 1,200 km-long gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, is already 94% complete. A year ago, the pipeline's construction was suspended due to U.S. sanctions, but the Russian side resumed work on its own with the consent of the German side. Ukraine opposes the construction of the pipeline. The opponents of the project are also the United States, Poland, and the Baltic countries. FM-TV ВСЕ НОВОСТИ ПО-РУССКИ ЗДЕСЬ другие новости
