Some 276,000 people lost their jobs in Ukraine during the coronavirus lockdown, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.
He said this at a press conference entitled "100 Days of Government" on Thursday, June 11, according to an Ukrinform correspondent. "According to the latest data, the number of registered unemployed people in our country currently exceeds 514,000. For comparison, on March 12, when we introduced lockdown, it was 361,000. […] At the same time, 276,000 have received the status of unemployed since the beginning of lockdown," Shmyhal said. He added that to date, 142,700 people of those who had the status of unemployed had found jobs. "This is quite a large number and these are measures that stimulated the creation of new jobs. [...]," Shmyhal said. The government introduced lockdown in Ukraine on March 12 to combat the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
