"The area of her activity at Naftogaz will include international relations, as well as support for the company's position in international litigation and arbitration proceedings, in particular, regarding the Naftogaz Group's assets seized by Russia in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea," the statement reads - Ukrinform.
It notes that Zerkal has 25 years of experience as a lawyer in the private and public sectors. She is the author of the Ukrainian methodology for adapting legislation to EU standards. She did a number of scientific works on a comparative analysis of Ukrainian legislation.
Naftogaz recalled that during her work at the Ukrainian Justice Ministry, Zerkal participated in all rounds of negotiations on the Association Agreement with the EU, readmission and visa facilitation agreements between Ukraine and the EU. She was a member of Ukraine's delegations at negotiations with the EU, UN, NATO, and the Council of Europe. Since 2014, while working at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, she has dealt with European integration issues and represented Ukraine in cases against Russia (on the financing of terrorism and racial discrimination, the violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the immunity of Ukrainian military vessels and crew). For two years, she was involved in the work of the Ukrainian team in negotiations to continue Russian gas transit to Europe after 2019. Serving as Ukraine's deputy foreign minister, Zerkal was also involved in explaining the risks and countering the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
