The New York Times starts using ‘Kyiv’ instead of ‘Kiev’
19 of November 2019 г.
The New York Times will use the correct name for the Ukrainian capital in English – "Kyiv" instead of the old form of "Kiev”.
The Ukrainian Embassy in the United States wrote this on its Facebook page.
“The New York Times, an American newspaper, has started to use the correct name for the Ukrainian capital, having changed Kiev to Kyiv,” reads the report.
The Embassy reminded that the U.S. Board on Geographic Names considered the appeal of the Embassy in summer and decided to recognize only one official spelling "Kyiv", as the correct name for the capital of Ukraine. Some famous U.S. publications have already joined the international campaign #KyivNotKiev.
“They include Associated Press, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and from now on The New York Times,” reads the report.
