"I do not treat the Nord Stream 2 as something fatal. I proceed from the fact that the EU’s legislation has been already extended to the Nord Stream 2 so the pipeline will never be beneficial to the Russians as they hope. And if something is unprofitable to them, they often give up this idea," Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena Zerkal said in an interview to the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia Ukrainian media outlet.
Replying to a journalist’s commentary that they have not given it up yet, Zerkal noted that the pipeline would not work from January 1, 2020, as the Russians wanted it, and it may not even start to work on July 1 next year.
"They only now begin to remake the project documentation for an alternative route, bypassing the territorial waters of Denmark. This is a big failure already. Another point is the European legislation: the strengthening of market relations within the European gas market means that the Nord Stream 2 will not work in a way to meet the financial and organizational expectations of Russians," the deputy minister emphasized.
