NewsRSSMeetings of TCG's working groups were constructive - Kuchma
6 of June 2019 г.
The meetings of working groups of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions were constructive for the first time.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, Leonid Kuchma, said this in Minsk on June 5, the Ukrainian presidential press service reported. "The meetings of working groups were held constructively for the first time. All the parties wanted to find a solution. The tone of the discussion was completely different from what it was before. We came with a 'road map' from the president of Ukraine. There were messages that the head of state really wants peace in that region. At a meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group, I expressed the wishes that I heard from the president. It seems to me that everyone has heard that the Ukrainian side and the opposite side want to solve these problems, so there was trust in each other," Kuchma said. According to him, the exchange of prisoners of war was discussed during the meetings. "I cannot say that tomorrow these issues will be resolved fundamentally, but I know clearly that they will start to be resolved. The issue of our seamen was also raised, and I am convinced that there will be progress in this area," Kuchma said. He also added that the TCG had discussed security issues. One of the arrangements was indicating not only the beginning of a ceasefire but also the mechanism for its introduction. "This is important because neither party wanted to put itself in an awkward position so as to blame for that later. Today, we have to show the whole world that we want this 'silence regime.' It must be written that nobody returns fire, and a ban must also be imposed on the shelling of public facilities – schools, kindergartens. The group should draw up such proposals by June 19. We have to approve them on the 19th [of June]," Kuchma said. At the same time, he expressed hope that the results of the meeting would lead to progress in resolving the water supply issue in the occupied Donbas. "We agreed to work with the Cabinet of Ministers. We reached a tentative agreement that a meeting should be held with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadiy Zubko tomorrow [on June 6] to discuss economic issues that were raised today," he said. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on June 3 that Ukraine's second president, Leonid Kuchma, would again represent Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk. другие новости
