Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law banning representatives of the aggressor country from being observers in Ukraine's elections, the press service of the head of state has reported - Ukrinform.
"President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law of Ukraine on the introduction of amendments to some laws of Ukraine on observing the election process in Ukraine, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on February 7, 2019," the statement reads. The law amends the laws "On the Election of the President of Ukraine," "On the Election of People's Deputies of Ukraine," "On Local Elections," which stipulate that a person who is a citizen (subject) of a state recognized by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as an aggressor state or occupying state cannot be an official observer from foreign states and international organizations. This ban also applies to persons when proposals on them were initiated or put forward by a state recognized by the Verkhovna Rada as an aggressor state or occupying state. The law takes effect from the day following the day it is published.
