“Today, the EU approved EUR 500 million tranche in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. This decision comes at the crucial moment when Ukraine faces a new aggression from Russia and needs to see solidarity from the friends across the world,“ Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis informed on Twitter.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked the European Commission for providing Ukraine with the first tranche of the EU's macro-financial assistance in the amount of EUR 500 million.
According to a press release by the European Commission, up to EUR 1 billion is available to Ukraine under the new MFA programme approved by the European Parliament and the Council in July 2018. The programme helps Ukraine cover its financing needs and supports the implementation of a wide-ranging structural reform agenda.
With this disbursement, the total macro-financial assistance extended to Ukraine by the EU since 2014 will reach EUR 3.3 billion, the largest amount of such assistance directed at any non-EU country.
