The International Monetary Fund positively assesses the prospects of cooperation with Ukraine under the new Stand-By Arrangement and promises to make a decision on the first tranche after December 10 as the Ukrainian authorities are expected to complete all prior actions by this date.
“I had a constructive conversation with President Poroshenko earlier today, during which we discussed the status of the expected Stand-By Arrangement,” reads the statement by IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde on her telephone call with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, posted on the website of the IMF. According to Lagarde, the Ukrainian leader informed about the key parameters of the 2019 budget, which was recently approved by parliament and is currently under review by IMF staff. “The preliminary assessment is satisfactory and the process is expected to be completed shortly. We also explored possible technical assistance from the IMF to strengthen tax administration and make the tax system more [economic] growth friendly while assuring debt sustainability,” reads the statement. As noted, the IMF expects the Ukrainian authorities to complete all prior actions by December 10, 2018. According to the IMF Managing Director, “a meeting of the Executive Board to discuss the Stand-By Arrangement would be convened promptly after that.” “We reaffirmed the positive and cooperative relationship between Ukraine and the IMF,” Christine Lagarde summed up. другие новости
