NewsRSSUkraine can become a gas state by 2025 – Groysman
22 of November 2018 г.
Ukraine is able to become a gas country that satisfies its own needs and exports.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said this in an interview with the German newspaper Die Zeit, the Government portal reported. "The Ukrainian gas transmission system was built for delivery of Russian gas to Europe. The capacity of the pipeline system is 146 billion cubic meters of gas per year. At present, 90 billion are used. The system is reliable. We consider the construction of Nord Stream 2 as follows: Russia wants to make Europe hostage to its gas, this idea is another hybrid weapon against Europe. As soon as energy market will be dependent on Russia, it will halt supplies. Can you call any guarantee that Russia has given recently and respected it? We want to become a gas country that satisfies its own needs and exports. We can do it by 2025. And you can benefit from investing in Ukraine and getting energy from another source," the prime minister stressed. According to Groysman, the relations between Ukraine and Germany will always be close and partnering because they are based on common values and the implementation of a number of important geopolitical and economic initiatives. "Ukraine is currently playing an essential role in defending democracy in Europe and in countering Russia’s aggression which has been waged on the entire world. Russia has invaded Ukraine because we see our future in Europe," Groysman said. The prime minister stressed that "Ukraine is undergoing transformations and the Government of Germany is actively helping Ukraine on this path." However, there are also forces that slow down the processes of changes. "When you carry out reforms, you fight against the old system, against populism, against inefficiency," he stressed. According to the head of government, the battle against external threats is also being carried out. Among them are Kremlin’s aggressive attempts to humiliate Ukraine's transit capabilities in favor of the Nord Stream 2 project. Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline project which aims to carry more Russian natural gas under the Baltic Sea direct to Germany, bypassing Ukraine and Poland. Russian gas monopoly Gazprom owns 51% of the project’s shares. Russia wants to build two strings of the gas pipeline. The project opponents, including Poland, the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Moldova, the United States and Denmark, argue that Nord Stream 2 will increase the EU's dependence on Gazprom. другие новости
