"The State of North Carolina represented by Governor Roy Cooper has officially proclaimed November 24, 2018 as Holodomor Remembrance Day in North Carolina," the Ukrainian diplomatic mission said.
The document, in particular, states that Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and his totalitarian regime "committed an act of genocide" through the implementation of an engineered famine by confiscating land, grain and animals from the Ukrainian people, resulting "in the deaths of millions of innocent men, women and children".
At the same time, the proclamation calls on the global community to officially recognize that Holodomor is "a tragic and heinous crime against humanity" in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
As reported, 18 U.S. states already recognized Holodomor as genocide against Ukrainian people.
