The United Nations Office in Ukraine has called for bringing to justice those involved in the murder of activist Kateryna Handziuk.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Osnat Lubrani, wrote this on her Twitter page. “The UN Office in Ukraine extends its condolences to family & friends of Kateryna Handziuk. Impunity for crimes against civil society activists, journalists and any person who speaks out is unacceptable. The UN calls for immediate investigations, accountability and justice,“ she noted. In turn, the EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, stated that the perpetrators of Handziuk's death must be brought to justice. “Very saddened by the news of the passing of the incredibly brave Kateryna Handziuk. Attacks against civil society activists are unacceptable. The perpetrators of this vicious crime must be brought to justice. My thoughts are with her family and friends,“ he wrote on Twitter. As reported, a well-known activist, volunteer, member of the Kherson City Council, Handziuk, who had sulfuric acid thrown in her face last summer, died at hospital on November 4.
