The Cabinet of Minister has decided to allocate UAH 100,000 to each family of Ukrainian political prisoners.
The relevant resolution was approved at a government meeting on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports. “Today we have approved the decision on the support for the families of political prisoners and allocate UAH 100,000 to each family,” said Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman. He stressed that these families have a lot of expenses that they need to cover. In turn, Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova called on Groysman to instruct the relevant agencies to carry out the required measures so that these payments be transferred to the families as soon as possible. About 70 Ukrainians are political prisoners in Russia and in the occupied Crimea. This list also includes Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony on fabricated charges of "espionage."
