The United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations has approved and recommended for approval by the upper chamber of the U.S. Congress a resolution in which the 1932-1933 Holodomor is recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people, Ukraine's Embassy in the United States has said on its Facebook page.
"The draft resolution condemns the systematic violations of human rights, including the right to self-determination and freedom of speech, committed by the Soviet government against the Ukrainian people. The deepest condolences are expressed to victims, survivors of the Holodomor and their families, and there is a call for the dissemination of information to raise awareness in the world about the artificial nature of this tragedy," the report said. The embassy also says that the resolution, co-authored by more than two dozen senators, was presented on March 14 by a group of senators from the Republican and Democratic parties, led by co-chairs of the Senate Ukraine Caucus, Robert Portman and Richard Durbin. As was reported earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko praised the efforts of the Ukrainian community in the United States in recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. At the same time, he said that Ukraine was waiting for the decision of the U.S. Congress to recognize the Holodomor as genocide at the Congressional Committee level. Отправить в:      другие новости
