"The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is marked today. For Ukraine, this day is a reminder of the fate of the Crimean Tatars, who are now living under Russian occupation and are subject to oppression and bullying. Ukraine continues its struggle for de-occupation of Crimea, for the rights and freedoms of the Crimean Tatar people," President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko wrote on Facebook on Thursday morning.

The president recalled that he had instructed diplomats to prepare a new resolution on Crimea for the next session of the UN General Assembly in order to stop any speculation regarding the status of Crimea.

Poroshenko emphasized that the General Assembly had repeatedly supported Ukraine’s position, in particular regarding the violation of the rights of the Crimean Tatars, therefore the position of the civilized world remained unchanged: "Crimea is Ukraine!"

"I am sure that the indigenous people - the Crimean Tatars - will soon continue to cherish the unique traditions of their ancestors in the free Ukrainian Crimea," the president summed up.
