NewsRSSSuspect in organizing Babchenko's murder arrested for 60 days
1 of June 2018 г.
The Shevchenkivsky District Court of Kyiv has chosen the measure of restraint in the form of detention for 60 days without determining the size of the bail for Borys Herman, a suspect in organizing the murder of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko.
A respective court decision was announced by Investigating Judge Viktoria Svitlytska on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent. "The court ruled... to satisfy the petition of investigators and apply to suspect Borys Herman, born in 1967, the measure of restraint in the form of detention without determining the size of the bail," the judge said. According to the prosecution, Herman offered volunteer Oleksiy Tsymbaliuk $30,000 for Babchenko's murder. The latter agreed, but on the same day, April 6, he turned to law enforcement officers. Those who ordered the journalist's assassination have not yet been established. Herman's lawyer, Yevgeniy Solodko, said that he considered a notice of suspicion and grounds for choosing the measure of restraint in the form of detention for his client to be unjustified. Borys Herman is suspected under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 3 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (organizing preparations for a terrorist act, that is for the use of weapons in order to violate public safety, intimidating the population, in preliminary collusion by a group of individuals that led to the death of a person).
