Francis Fukuyama, a well-known U.S. philosopher, political scientist, professor at the Stanford University's Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law, is confident that Russia is now committing aggression against Ukraine, because President Vladimir Putin realizes that if Ukraine succeeds in building democracy, this will automatically affect his country.
He said this at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman at a ceremony to sign a memorandum on the launch of the Civil Service Feedback Loop Initiative, an Ukrinform correspondent reported. In my opinion, Ukraine is now at the forefront of the global struggle for democracy. Russia committed aggression in Donbas, because Putin understands that if Ukraine succeeds in building democracy, this will also have consequences for his country, for the entire post-Soviet space, for many countries around the world, Fukuyama said. The professor expressed confidence that Ukraine would not surrender, but, on the contrary, would fight to the end, but it should simultaneously solve a number of other problems, in particular, in the fight against corruption.
