Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that foreign donors cannot dictate laws to Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with British newspaper Financial Times, while commenting on a statement by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding shortcomings in the law on the Anti-Corruption Court. "If anybody can imagine that foreign donors will form Ukrainian courts, this is against the constitution," Poroshenko said. He warned that demands from the IMF and the Venice Commission for foreign donors to have a significant say on candidates to be judges at the Anti-Corruption Court infringed Ukraine's sovereignty. Poroshenko also said that he was ready to sign amendments to the bill on the Anti-Corruption Court if it complied with the Constitution of Ukraine. "I hate the idea that the very next day, anyone [could] go to the Constitutional Court and suspend or stop this law. That would be a catastrophe," Poroshenko said. On March 1, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada supported the presidential bill on the Anti-Corruption Court at first reading. Отправить в:      другие новости
