President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Timo Soini discussed the situation in Donbas and Crimea and the prospects for deploying the UN peacekeeping mission.
This is reported by the press service of the Head of State - Ukrinform. "President Poroshenko and Minister Soini discussed the situation in Donbas and Crimea, particularly the prospects for deploying the UN peacekeeping mission. The parties agreed with the need to extend the sanctions against Russia until the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine are fully restored," the statement reads. The President of Ukraine expressed gratitude for Finland's continued support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, compliance with the EU sanctions regime against the Russian Federation by the Finnish companies, as well as promotion of the reforms in Ukraine. Poroshenko emphasized that the Kremlin’s intention to conduct voting within the presidential election on the territory of the Ukrainian Crimea directly contradicted the international law. The Head of State urged the international partners to condemn the illegal election process on the peninsula and take appropriate measures to prevent their citizens from taking part in the so-called "international observation". Special attention was paid to the bilateral cooperation issues, implementation of projects energy efficiency projects and funding of the educational reform in Ukraine by Finland. The President noted that the energy efficiency issue was becoming increasingly important for Ukraine under existing circumstances.
