NewsRSSUkrainian Armed Forces can switch to NATO standards before 2020
19 of February 2018 г.
Ukraine has already implemented the fourth part of the necessary NATO standards, Vadym Prystaiko, head of the country's mission to NATO, has said - Interfax.
"There are, nominally speaking, about 150-200 standards which involve, for example, pilots speaking the same language so that they distinguish between 'friend' and 'foe,' how troops should be deployed, what the requirements are for border-crossing, and so on. Of these standards, we have already implemented approximately one-fourth. There is pace. I think that this [the Ukrainian Armed Forces' transition to NATO standards] can be achieved before 2020," Prystaiko told journalists on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, February 17.
Hungary did block a NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting slated for February 14-15, he said.
Ukraine is trying to find a compromise, but there seems to be no such desire on Hungary's part, he said. "It seems to me that we are simplifying when we think that once elections have been held in Hungary, it would retreat. If Hungarian society is so radicalized that Ukraine is an enemy who discriminates against their language and everything else, and this gives them votes, then why refuse from it in the future?" Prystaiko said.
